Display Energy Certificates (DECs)

From the 1st October 2008, all publicly accessed or publicly owned buildings over 1,000 m2 need a Display Energy Certificate (DEC), which will need to be updated annually.

Property managers affected by this law will need to have annual energy meter readings available in order to be in a position to obtain a certificate.

The DEC also includes an Advisory Report (AR) and there must be a completed DEC and AR for each building.

The purpose of the DEC is to raise public awareness of energy use and to inform visitors to public buildings about the energy use of the building.

An affected organisation must display a DEC in a prominent place clearly visible to the public and have in it’s possession or control a valid advisory report.
